History
From January to May of 2006, Megan Turner, founder and President, lived in Prampram, Ghana, West Africa volunteering as a primary school teacher. While there, she experienced the barriers that a lack of education place on countries, communities and individuals. Neighbors within Ghana regularly struggled with simple communication misunderstandings; towns and villages were corruptly administered by the few educated individuals while the majority were ignorantly mislead; jobs were hard to come by, and workers in despair were taken advantage of. “Madam, I beg you to help me get an education,” were common pleas from families and individuals. The voices of these determined Prampram residents inspired today’s Education Program in Ghana—they inspired Prampram Worldwide Education.
Why Prampram Worldwide Education versus other charity organizations?
Prampram Worldwide Education's founders believe "development...cannot be given. It must be gained by oneself (Van Orman)." The following are the distinguishing key factors that set Prampram Worldwide Education apart from other non-profits and allow for greater success:
Prampram's Foundation: Prampram Worldwide Education's Education Program was constructed through interactive planning versus directive planning; and it was built inside-out versus outside-in. The organization came about in response to the pleas of Ghanaian residents for help to receive an education. Rather than deciphering from an outside view what the people needed, founders listened to the native people's desires. Statistically, development program success rates increase when objectives are set by those being served. In formulating Prampram Worldwide Education, the desires of the people were listed to, and natives were involved in planning, organizing, and assisting in the program. Undesirable implementations rarely attain lasting effects.
Prampram's Receipients: Recipients are encouraged to become stronger and more independent by studying hard to gain a strong education and by paying-it-forward through community service. Receipients prove they are self-motivated individuals through maintaining educational standards set by Prampram Worldwide Education.
Prampram's Leaders: Ghanaian residents direct the educational program and local community citizens manage it within Ghana. These leaders understand the reality of life in Ghana and what Prampram Worldwide Education's participants are ready to handle. With great insight, these leaders are able to positively collaborate with the organization's U.S. based directors to produce effective objectives and solutions.
Prampram's Administrative Costs: Board member and volunteers are very aware of the need in Ghana so they do all they can to keep costs as low as possible. 90% of your donations go directly to the students in Ghana affiliated with Prampram Woldwide Education.
Prampram Gives Less and Helps More: Prampram Worldwide Education believes in giving less, not more. The educational program only gives what is essential and what a family cannot independently afford. This allows families to retain their pride of ownership and responsibility. It also prevents recipients from becoming dependent upon outside resources. As well as allows us to help as many students as possible.
Prampram Builds Relationships: Prampram Worldwide Education seeks to build productive relationships within Ghana between people and organizations. This is attained through support systems that encourage self-esteem, vision, unity, education and service.
